  1. Using Sony 500a to burn memorex DVD-R of my own videos. I use Sonic MyDVD to burn. Tmpgenc to encode. Some DVDs will start breaking up in the last few minutes of the movie. Some play all the way with no problem, but then a few won't. Is it the encoder, MyDVD,, the burner or is it the player which is a Toshiba 6200? I'm starting to make a bunch of coasters! Any ideas? I'm starting to get real irritated!
    Thanks.

  3. Really?
I thought the memorex was pretty good. So I guess there can be a few bad ones in a pack or is it memorex in general?

    Thanks for your help!!!!!!

  4. Memorex has gotten some *very* bad feedback here -- check on the media forum for the full details.

I have the Sony burner as well -- I'd stick with either TDK or Verbatim (although the Samsung BeAlls do a good job, but they are strictly mail order).

Your problem is common. What causing it is poor media t the edge of the disk. If you were to re-encode, and set you max size to 4.00 GB instead of 4.37 GB, you would probably have no issues. It's that last few 100's of MB that causes most of the problems. Kind of the reverse of overburning, you need to 'underburn' to have problem free encodes(no bombasting about the true meaning of underburn :P ).

Again, it's a sign of bad media. Shop around and try something else, it can just be you burner and that media.

I have tried Memorex, Maxell, Pioneer, Princo and Ritek.

Memorex and Princo suck. End of disk burns always failed.

Pioneer and Maxell worked great but are to expensive!!!

I use Ritek now and will probly never switch again. Great quality for a great price ($1.05 - $1.20). In 200+ burns I have never had a problem with end of disk burns.

i guess it's different for me then. never used memorex DVD-R, so can't comment there. i've used memorex CD-Rs...and most are pretty reliable..especially the taiyo udens.

i use princo for DVD-R. yes, it does have the edge problem, but personally, it's not as big of a deal as what ppl have made it to be. it only affects the last 80 MB or so of the disc. my pioneer dv333 can actually play the edges with no problems. only when i start playing that same edge over and over again (for testing purposes) do i start noticing the video breakup. even then, this problem seems to surface randomly, as some princos burned to the edge do not exhibit this problem. it could be a combination of DVD burner/DVD player that determines how big of an effect the "edge problem" will have for you. i stick with the pioneer brand for both my dvd player and burner..so perhaps, the "edge problem" is more severe if you have those cheap, low-end dvd players like Apex.

  9. I do agree that some players are more sensitive to this end of burn problem, but it's not just the cheap ones. I bought my Toshiba 6200 3 years ago for $600 and it has the problems. My DVD-Rom in the computer plays them ok and my in-laws' DVD player that came with their big screen plays them fine also. That's why I thought it was something else. I get it now!
