  1. Hi. I am just learning to rip DVDs. I would like to be able to play these back on some of the newer DVD players coming out that do Divx. I'm guessing that most of these will play Xvid encoded media also?

And does it matter what resolution I choose? Any other things I should think about (in regards to optimizing these files for TV playback, apart from putting it on more than 1 CD)?

  2. They're all a little different, I would check the specs on the player you are going to get and go by that.

The thing is, I haven't decided which player yet. The Lite-On looks nice, maybe when it drops to $100 or so.

I've read around a little and it seems like I shouldn't use global motion compensation or quarter pixel. Should I use B frames?

And for the orginal question about resolution, does it matter if say, I pick 512x384 over 576x432? I know that I should pick a resolution that both numbers are multiples of 16. I want to fit movies on one CD.
