I am new to encoding and wondering if I am getting speeds in line with my set-up, or something is amiss. I am using Vista 64, and my processor is a mildly overclocked Q6600. I am trying to turn a 45 minute documentary into an AVI file. Steps I followed: First I used ripit4me to get it onto a folder in my drive. From what I can see that program automatically runs decrypter as well. Then I started up autoGK. At first I decided to encode by size, selecting a 700mb file. I started my encode at about 1 am last night, at 11 am this morning it was still going and only 35% done. I felt something but have gone wrong, so decided to start over using a new encoding option. I set it to encode for 75% quality. About five hours have passed and I'm at 9%. Are these the kind of speeds I should be getting and, if not, does anybody have an idea what the source of the problem could be? Thanks for your input.

  2. Something's wrong. A 45 minute video done using the Target Quality setting of AutoGK probably shouldn't have taken more than 20-30 minutes at most. I don't know for sure what's wrong but would guess that there are background things going on. Do a CTRL-ALT-Delete and check what other processes are taking up CPU cycles. Cut down on the stuff loading when booting up. Make sure there aren't any virus's or spyware stuff hogging your computer. Others around here know more about those things than I, though.

Thanks, manono, for confirming my suspicions something was wrong!

I could not find anything using my processort but AutoGK, so I decided to start fresh: I rebooted, reripped the video, and now, thankfully, everything seems to be moving forward at a much more reasonable rate!

Still not sure what caused that problem though...

Maybe nothing to do with your problem, but RipIt4Me hasn't been updated since April 2007. DVDFab HD Decrpyter may be a better choice, at least for newer DVDs.
