  1. I've been having a few problems with HD playback; seems like I can play some 720p videos but some others slow down, while audio seems to work fine. Also, 1080p don't seem to work either, they behave the same way.
I keep getting the 90-100% peaks on CPU activity

I could be wrong as I don't really know much on specs but they seem good enough:

Operating System: Vista Home Premium SP1
CPU Speed: AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-72
    RAM Memory: 4 GB
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450

I'm using K-Lite Codec pack; I can also provide info on the files I've been trying to play.
Anyone has any ideas on what's going wrong?

On a final note, as a newcorner, I have a few slightly off-topic questions:
1- Is it okay to say the names of files, even if they were obtained through warez? I read the rules topic and it doesn't say anything about that.
2- How come some files have the ".720p" on their names, although if I check them with MediaInfo, the resolution isn't really 720p?
3- Is K-Lite Codec pack good? I seem to hear a lot more about CCCP...

BUY/RENT your movies/tvseries instead of downloading warez.

    For best HD video playback:
Instead of codec packs use just use ffdshow and haali media splitter and you can play most formats directly in wmp or mpc or other players. Or use players with builtin codecs like mpc-hc or kmplayer or smplayer.

  3. So you're saying that if I uninstalled K-lite and use FFd and Haali on their own it should be better?

K-lite does come with FFD, Haali and MPC Home Cinema.

k-lite also comes with a lot of crap, a lot of conflicting settings, and is a pain in the arse to remove. No codec pack is good.

  5. Humm, so what should I do at this point? Remove K-Lite and do as Baldrick said or just keep it?

At this point, I'd leave it alone unless absolutely necessary. Your HD playback issue is likely either codec or cpu related. As Baldrick noted, ensure you have the latest version of ffdshow and haali media splitter installed and playback using MPC Home Cinema. But otherwise, it sounds like you don't have enough cpu.

  7. MPCHC has most of the file splitters and decoders you need. You may not have to install anything else. Be sure to enable multithreading in the h.264 decoder.

    View -> Options -> Internal Filters -> Transform Filters -> h.264/AVC (ffmpeg) -> Decoding Thread Number -> 2
