Photoalbum with duration of pics LESS than 1 second?

Anyone know of any software or solutions that would allow me to create a slideshow with pics and music BUT be able to change the duration of some of the pics so that they flash quicker than 1 sec? I know you can change the duration on some software (for example Roxio Easy CD & DVD allows 1-16 seconds) but I would like to flash the pics faster.

For instance, the slideshow would start with a 1-3 second duration for pics, midway through the duration would be lowered to .5 seconds and maybe even flash faster than that- then maybe slow down at the end of the slideshow. I assume I am talking 100-300 pics and maybe more (which could be a limitation with some software). Is what I am refering to done with fancy schmancy video editing software/hardware - or is this possible?
