  1. I have a 25 min xvid file that tmpgenc always thinks is over an hour long. When I try to encode at the dvdrhelp.com calculator suggested bitrate, I get a file that fills the whole dvd. I'm using Tmpgenc 2.5 Plus.

It is probably encoded with VBR audio. Open it in VirtualDub and it should warn you right away that it uses VBR audio. If that is the case then let VirtualDub fix it and then see if TMPGEnc interprets it correctly after that.

  3. Okay, that was the problem. But how do I let Virtualdub fix it?

Open the file in VirtualDub. Select Direct Stream Copy in the video menu and Full Processing under audio. Next choose Save AVI in the file menu and give it a new name. It should only take a few minutes to process. Your other option is to save the audio as a wav from the file menu and use that wav file as the audio source in TMPGEnc. Either way should fix your problem.

  5. Go to Audio and select full processing. Choose Codec PCM then save the wav. Use that as your audio source.
