  1. I have just ripped a dvd with Smartripper (v2.41). I chose Movie as Rip-Method, and on the Input tab I chose Program Chain 1 (the largest), and on the stream processing tab, I checked the Enable stream processing button, and all the options below was checked. Everything else is default. Key - Check: every vob file, File - Splitting: every vob file.

When smartripper was finished I got 4 vob's, and then I started dvd2avi (v1.77.3), and opened the vob's. Then I chose Audio -> Track Number -> Track 1 ... the english track. Then I chose Audio -> Dolby Digital Decode -> Dolby Surround Downmix, and them Audio -> 48 -> 44.1KHz -> UltraHigh ... After this I did File -> Save Project

When dvd2avi was finished, I started up tmpegenc (v2.513.53.162) and started the Project Wizard. I chose Video-CD -> PAL, and for the video file I chose the dvd2avi project file, and for the sound I chose the wav file that dvd2avi made. Then I let tmpegenc start the process. 8 hours later I got an mpg file but the sound is constantly lagging with about a second ... through the entire movie. Now ... does anyone here know where the error happens? Is it dvd2avi that is adding the delay? Is it tmpegenc that is starting the video file before the sound? Is it the dvd ripping that does it? Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks

  2. in the .wav file that dvd2avi creates, is there a "delay" in the name of the file?

also, that happenes sometimes. i've had that happen to me on certain movies, 10 things i hate about you, insomnia, and usual suspects (the first DVD released). if the audio is outta sync by the same amount throughout the movie, you can go into the source range filter in tmpgenc and use the audio skew. this will allow you to start the audio earlier or later (in milliseconds).... you need to figure out the time delay yourself in this case.

if there was a time delay mentioned in the .wav file, you could insert that into the audio skew as well. just make sure you get the sign correct. it's been awhile, so i don't remember if negative (-) time makes the audio start earlier or later...but i think it was earlier.....

  3. Nope ... the filename does not say anything about a delay. If I make an ac3 it has DELAY in the filename, but if I try to use that file as audio source in tmpegenc, it crashes.

Don't know the cause of your problem, but it's easily fixed by using the audio skew function in TMPGEnc, or, using "any" wav editor, cut "about a second" off the start of the wav.

I suspect the problem was created during the down sampling of the audio from 48 to 44.1 Khz.
    TMPGenc have trouble to resample.

    Try using the ssrc.exe.
Configure TMPGenc to use this resampling tool by going to:
Options / Enviromental Setting / External Tools.
Check the sampling frequency convertor and point the path to SSRC converter.
You will of cource need to download this util.
I am sure you can find a link here in VCDHELP or try GOOGLE.
