I've been having irritating problems lately with watching movies on the computer. It happens with pretty much every format (avi, mp4...). I'm not sure if it really happens with mkvs, I've watched sucker punch in 1080p recently and there hasnt been any problem.

What happens is: the video will play fine for about 20 minutes, but then the sound will start being out of sync. It will be out of sync for 10 seconds then things will kind of "reboot" and video and sound will sync up, then go out of sync again withing 5 seconds, then sync up, then go out of sync. And after a while it aggravates and becomes unwatchable.

One thing that is very odd is that I have fraps on, and those videos that screw up play at 14-15 fps I don't know how it's possible. I've always always gotten 24 fps before. But in 2 days I've had 3 videos do that...

I have no idea what could be the cause of the problems. My task manager is clean, there is not much stuff running apart from my anti malware, firewall, and antivirus (and any quantity of other random programs that don't affect anything). Resource manager shows me Cpu usage is low, GPU usage is low, ram isnt loaded. I don't think i have any malware, or at least nothing that my triple protection is picking up. And lastly the HDD isn't being used by anything else

I don't know much about codecs, but I have one of the latest versions of CCC, and have been using it for a long time, and this problem has just appeared recently.

    What could be causing this?

    Matt-

Fixed : Updating my Nvidia drivers fixed the problem completely. I guess there was something wrong with the previous beta release.

There are MANY very-wrong things in the latest "driver packs" from Nvidia ,

just take a look at several Doom9 threads which mention the subject.
