  1. In order to work on my stand alone DVD player, my DVD-Rs need at least 3.8-4GB of data. Some stuff that I want to copy is smaller than that, so I would like to add something to bring it up to the appropraite size- any recomendations how I would go about adding extra data without affecting playback?

    Your DVD player shouldn't really have no problems with smaller discs (I personally own two Philips DVD players, DVD 622 and DVDR980 and have never experienced any playback problems due to too small disc size and I have created test discs with only ~200 Mb of vido data)

    So the reason for your problems has to be elsewhere, either the problem is your authoring/burning software OR bad media OR your DVD players outdated firmware. Try updating your firmware, you can find newest firmwares for your player @ http://www.ianc.net/philips/downloads.shtml. Try different media, create a DVD image first with ImgTools and then burn the image with DVDDecrypter.

    It should act the same on ALL discs. So tell me, what happens when your pressed DVD is below 3.8GB of data? Something doesn't add up here.
    I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

    sandor;

    You said you want to add extra material to your dvd, no problem. Just create another folder along with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Then put your data in there.

    I did this a few times for my son's baseball team. After I authord the dvd, I had about 600 MBs left on disk. So I created a folder called Team, in it I put a bunch of jpg's I took of the team with digital camera. I burned all three folders in data mode with RecordNow Max.

    The dvd's (Fuji + R) played great on everyones dvd players and PS2's. Everyone that had a DVD-ROM on their computer, had access to the jpg's.

    Hope that helps.
    Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

  6. I think you will find there is a 1Gb "compatibility" minimum.

    I've seen my recorder / burning program has this feature which can be enabled / disabled from within the menus - it appears to pad out the data if it's under 1Gb. I don't know how it does it, I'm guessing it just puts a load of 1's after the data and before the lead out. So long as the TOC on the disc corresponds to the data it should be fine.

    No idea why your minimum seems to be so high, though, very odd !

  7. I agree- it is pretty odd that my minimum would be so high, but there were a few posts on this forum that recomend no less that 3.8GB for the Philips DVD711. Not really believing it, I copied two DVDs that were 3.5GB and 3.7GB and neither worked (after trying to readthe DVD for a minute or so, the player opens the tray saying "NO DISK"). All the other DVDs that I made (about 6-7) were over 4GB, and all worked flawlessly. I tested out several different kinds of media, so I don't think that's the problem (Optodisc works great, Ritek and Optimum do not). I've been using DVD decrrypter for making and buring ISO files, and Copy to DVD for burining after editing with DVDshrink.

    I'll give the extra data folder a shot- if anyone has any other ideas, let me know. Thanks!

  8. I have this problem with my Sanyo DVD player, only mine is ok as long as I go over 3GB. It's a strange problem, I have access to about 6 different brands of DVD player, and all the others play smaller movies with no problem.

    The way i get round this is to add a dummy movie. I use DVD Maestro, and just add an extra movie that isn't on the menu. Usually, I just use the main movie file a second time. This way I know its still a totally valid file, just in case some DVD players might complain about un-standard files in an extra folder.
