  1. I just come across this file that is probably a xvid w/ ac3, I tried using the method on this website which teaches how to convert divx w/ ac3 to vcd format.
However, virtual dub seems unhappy with xvid file, when i try to open the file, it says "Couldn't locate decompressor for format'XVID'" "VirtualDub requres a video for windows compatible codec to decompress video. directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable.
I rather new to this format converting stuffs, so I don't have a clue what I should do to fix this or get it to work.
I can play the file fine on my computer.

    Anyone could help?

    Thank you so much,
    Ray.

Just as any AVI, you must have the right codecs to convert it to something else. XviD is just another video compressor (like DivX), AC3 just another audio compressor (like mp3).
    • Get the latest Xvid codec.
    If that wont help,
    • Try ffdshow
    and as a last resort:
    • Use the fourCCchanger and change XVID to DIVX

  4. I think I do have XviD codec, coz' I can see the file no program at all with windows media player 9.

just that virtual dub won't open it.

  5. It sounds like you have a FILTER for XVID installed, but I think VDUB needs the actual codec. With ffdshow installed I could play XVIDs no problem but could only open with VDUB after I installed thexvid codec. The koepi codec linked from this site works great for me.
