I want to capture my home video VHS tapes to DVD. I have heard that there are two medium-cost ways that are very effective. One would be to use a digital camcorder's a/d pass through to capture to my PC. The other would be to use a DVD recorder (like a Panasonic DMR-E60S, etc.) to capture to DVD-RAM, and then capture that on my PC with a DVD-RAM reader.

Has anyone had experience with BOTH, so that they could compare the quality of the results? I have read that both devices have time base correctors but have heard that the Panasonics do an exceptional job of correcting, de-interlacing, de-jittering, and filtering analog video. I would take a chance based on the good reports I have heard, but it DOES require an extra (time-consuming) step, by having to transfer the DV via a DVD-RAM.

Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dean
