  1. Hi guys, I apologize if this is not the correct forum but there were so many to post in, I didn't know where to start. Below is what I am doing and the question I have regarding it.

I am transferring my videos from an older camcorder to DVD using the Sony dvd recorder unit: http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/32565017-2-120-0.gif

Because my camcorder was older (8mm tape), I have to use video input to the recorder. The video transfers fine, however the sound only comes out one channel. When I connect the camcorder to my tv using video in I use only yellow (video) and white (mono audio) and it comes out both speakers just fine. If I connect it the same way tot he recorder, I only get sound coming out of one channel. Even if I use both red and white, I still only get audio out of only one channel. This is confusing to me. Is there no way to split the channel when recording?

    thanks for any tips.

Does the camcorder have stereo audio out? If so, you have to use a stereo cable to the recorder. If that's what you are doing, maybe bad cable. The TV is either mono or it combines both channels.

You can get a adapter to split a mono signal to two connectors for stereo, or the reverse. It's called a 'Y' adapter and there are several versions, one may be suited to your needs. They are commonly available at audio stores.

Does your cam have a mono/stereo setting?

  4. I am using a standard stereo cable that has an input for the audio/video input on my camcorder and the other side has the yellow, red, white for the input to the recorder. My camcorder is old, here is a picture of it but it doesn't seem to have any audio options in the menu...it is very limited

One picture shows "Monaural" on the cam so I assume that is not the cable that originally came with it, and what model #? If so, use a Y cable from the white to the red/white on the Sony as redwudz said.

Although, that Sony may have a mono-in setting you could use instead.
