Is there a way to do this?

I can convert Xvid avi's to mpgs for burning with no audio sync. I usually get audio sync converting DivX avi's to mpgs.

I use vDub to extract the wav then TMPGEnc to encode. No joy.

I am hoping to convert the DivX to Xvid so I can overcome the sync probs.

  2. Try the FOURCC Changer, should be in the tools section, if not, google will help.

Basically Divx and Xvid are compatible codecs. Change the file header info (the four CC code) that tells window what codec to use for playback, to suit your requirements.

you problem is the audio, not it being the xvid codec. convert the variable bitrate audio to constant bitrate audio then convert to mpeg and your files will be in synch. millions of posts here on how to fix this problem
