Hello there . . .
I use something called VirtualVCR (from www.digtv.ws) for all my VHS and TV captures. I normally capture at PAL SVCD resolution (480 x 576) and then filter etc using VirtualDub before encoding with TMPGEnc or CCE 2.5.
Over the length of a 2.5hr capture I might be dropping 1-5 frames - more than happy with that!! Overall, VirtualVCR is an excellent little program and highly recommended.
Cheers,

darkcrow7,
Try Virtualdub ( http://www.virtualdub.org ) !!!! In my opinion the BEST capture program available and the best thing.... ITS FREE !!!!
Also with Virtualdub it is possisble to tweak things, so capturing with different resoltions, capture to all kinds of codecs (eg. DivX (need fast processor, though)), etc...
Did some capturing: CPU util 20-30%, frames lost : 0!!!!!
