  1. OK, this is my first attempt to convert a S-VHS to DVD-R. I've searched and most posts led to the guide by this 'lordsmurf' guy.. but that just seems like overkill (i may be wrong..?). Besides, it's geared for cartoon capture/coversion..

I've got an S-VHS tape of Top Gun that has a Dolby Digital/THX audio (originally backed up from my laser disc, which I no longer have.. ). Anyway, I'd really like to retain the video quality, but my primary reason for not purchasing the Top Gun DVD is b/c its audio is not THX-remastered...

I have a ATI All-in-Wonder 7500 card (w/AMD Athlon xp2000+).. I can capture from that card, yes?? Is it as simple as connecting the RCA audio jacks and an S-VHS (composite) video jack to the back of my pc?? Again, this is my first capture and i'm unsure.. not even sure of what software came with the ATI card.. (my primary tasks involve converting/backing up my DVD's to DVD-R).

<-- I looked over in the 'How To' section to the left, but didn't see a detailed guide capture/conversion/settings/etc..on the above.. or did i just not look hard enough? Re: the conversion to DVD-R, must i use TMPGEnc or is it possible to use CCE?

Help w/b much appreciated (even a link to a detailed guide--other than the 'lordsmurf' one ). thanks!

  2. Sounds like you need a capture program first. Look in the tools section under capture. I am using Movie mill but not with the card it was intended for. It can be downloaded for free @ snazzi
If you need drivers ATI site has even the older ones. The site can also tell you if it will capture.
