  1. Hi has any one ever seen strange colours on the screen when watching a movie on the computer. It seams to be worse if the film has a black background, I know the films are OK coz they work on 1 of my other computers.

  2. I need a bit more detail regarding what manner of strange colors you are seeing. Are they so bad that the movie is unwatchable or are they merely a nuisance?

Also, is it mostly a green color or all differemt hues?

Lastly, does this happen with every movie you watch or only a specific set of media files? If it is the latter, use Gspot to determine what codec the file(s) was encoded with before replying.

With all of the above information, we should be able to get an idea of what kind of problem you are having.

  4. use Gspot to determine what codec the file(s) was encoded with, let me know

I have seen these blue and red artifacts before, but I can't remember what I eventually found as the cause and solution. Do you have an ATi video card? I seem to remember fixing this by reinstalling the latest ATi drivers, but could be wrong, try this (updating video drivers), no matter who makes your video card.

I need to find out what video codec the files were encoded in for some more ideas, but I have a feeling that it may not matter which format they are in and that this is being caused by a fault in the video rendering subsystem rather than with specific files.

The pink blocky mess you mentioned is a corrupted avi, you may be able to repair it, most likely not, but regardless, don't worry about that, it happens.

Let me know what you find out,
