  1. I am getting a "Error 418: Unsupported Video Format" error in VDub using my Leadtek TV2000 XP Deluxe when trying to capture at 640X480.

I have tried turning Preview on and even turned off Overlay. This did not solve the problem. Also tried installing the Bt8xx drivers. Not sure if I'm installing it correctly but all I get is a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error".

I really want to capture at 640X480. Can this be done?

Yes it can be done but VDub is a P.O.S at capturing video so you're better off using like AVI_IO or iuVCR or another program cause when i use VDub to capture i get nothing but errors, dropped frames and one big ass headache but now i use AVI_IO and havent had one frame drop or trouble with it i love it and i have even captured 3 hrs with no frame loss and i cant even go 30secs in VDub without a error or frame dropping.

i used to get the same error when trying to capture in dub using anything but the default settings.
I was trying to capture at 480x576.
what fixed it was opening my capture program that came bundled with the capture hardware.
I then close the app and open Vdub.
When I do this it works fine.
Vdub must somehow piggyback my primary capture software's settings.

  4. i-on-s, can I capture at a fixed video frame rate with those programs? I am using VDub to cut/join the files that were captured using the software that came with my capture card and it always complains about un-matching video frame rates.

scottb721, I will try that too.

VDUB uses VFW (old) drivers, whereas nearly everyhting else uses WDM (new) drivers. You need the WDM wrapper for VDUB to get it to capture anything better than VCD resolution.

I am having the same problem with VDub (I cannot even get a picture).
Where can I get the AVI_IO or iuVCR software? I have the Xcapture card and am just about to give up on it and get something else.

You can find both AVI_IO and iuVCR in the "Tools" section of this page. They are both demoware and not free

Vdub is not a pile of shit at capturing, I use it effortlessly and would recommend it highly.
Be thankful there are people out there willing to donate this free software, rather than charging for it.
