Do I need to do any colorspace conversion when editing DV footage in Virtualdub?

No, you can select "direct stream copy" if you're just cut/paste editing without any other processing.

    Cheers,
    David.

I will be doing some full processing with filters. Is it best to save back as dv before converting it to DVD or save to Lagarith Lossless? (spelling?)

Depending on the processing, ideally lagarith - mostly to avoid going back to 4:1:1 chroma before going to 4:2:0 for DVD.

Might not be very visible in practice when source was DV.

For consumer DV footage, make sure super whites aren't being clipped by any conversion to RGB.

    Cheers,
    David.

  6. It may be hard to tell for sure if VirtualDub is crushing blacks and whites. You need to check them before VirtualDub gets ahold of the data. Use AviSynth's AviSource() and Histogram() filters. Make sure levels fall between the brown bars (a tiny bit above and below is ok).
