Newbie needs help with DIVX to DVD-R conversion

Thank you in advance! I am very new to DVD burning. I used the demo version of Ulead MovieFactory 2 to convert an XVID movie to mpeg2 to burn onto a DVD-r. When finished converting, the VIDEO_TS folder ended up 4.6gigs and Nero is telling me that it will not fit on my 4.7gig dvd-r. In fact, Nero says I can only burn up to 4.3gig on these discs. Does DVD-R really require 300mb's for formatting?

Also, I have tried TMPGenc, but it gives me memory errors. After some research, I decided to try CCE. I have purchased the pro version, but what now? I have been looking for a detailed tutorial on how to use CCE but I haven't had much luck. Which program should I use with these codec? Any links to good CCE tutorials (preferably for use with a freeware program).

No, there is no 300 MB of formatting. 4,700,000 bytes is equal to 4.3 GB (it's 1000x1000 versus the true 1024x1024). Remember that 1 MB is eqal to 1,048,576 bytes, not 1,000,000.

CCE is an excellant program. Most guides will work for CCE or TMPG, and both work well. However, CCE is not point and click. Check teh guides again.
