  1. I am trying to convert several Divx videos to MPG for ultimate burning to DVD. The conversion from DivX to Mpg shows a slight jerkiness or hesitation every 4-5 sec. The original AVI file does not have this and is smooth. I am using TMGENc Plus 2.5.

The original avi has a frame rate of 23.976, but the encoded mpg is still jerky with either 23.976 or 29.97 f/s. These are the relevant screen. I am using the mpg conversion guide posted. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Use 23.976 with 3:2 pulldown(under encode mode I guess) and author to a dvd and it should look okey. Or try convert with FAVC instead, it does a good job and is pretty easy to use also.

  3. Thanks for the tip, but the hesitation is there (although it seems a bit less). I tried FAVC, but it said it encountered an error and had to close. Any way to tell if it is FAVC, .NET or AviSynth that is causing the problem (I just installed all 3).

    thanks,

  4. I made some progress... It appears that the jerkiness is when I use Windows Media Player to view the mpg file. When I use TMGEnc DVD Author to view the mpg, the jerkiness is not there. Does that mean it is the codec used by Wind. Media player?

    thanks,
    Jack

Probably. It may work better if you play the authored dvd with windows media player. Just playing 23.976 fps 3:2 pulldown mpgs might cause strange playback in some players/codecs.
