I use movie factory 1 and when I burn there are 7 steps it goes through.
The first 3 steps go so quick you cant read them. I know it goes through multiplexing then building dvd then finalizing vob's then burn I think.
For a full DVD it takes about 20 minutes to get to the burn stage does that mean it is re-encoding the video ir is that normal?

  2. I use DVD Movie Factory 2 and I can tell when it's re-encoding when it says something like "Preparing Video" in the status bar. If it says that, then it takes about 4 hours for a 2 hour video before it ever gets to the burn stage. I would say if you are getting there in 20 minutes for a full DVD it is not re-encoding. In MF2, when it does not re-encode, it flys by the "Preparing Video" stage and next moves to the "Multiplexing Audio" stage.

I have had pretty good luck with it not re-encoding imported DVD-compliant MPEG's, except those from PowerVCR II. For some reason it wants to re-encode those every time.
