But is it compliant, and does it match your project settings ?

Is the audio encoded at 48KHz rather than 44.1KHz?
This could be the cause of a re-encode.

  5. yes but it should be 48KHz right

    48KHz is the correct setting.

What about something really stupid like a pal encoded mpeg-2 and the software looking for ntsc, or visa versa?

What about the size, is it set to one of the options in moviefactory, or something else? Is it possible that moviefactory thinks that it has to resize the video?

I believe there is a shortcut for this, anyhow the long version is right click the video and get the properties. Then go to your project settings and make sure they exactly match the videos properties. Then make sure "do not convert compliant video" is checked.

Having said that how are you determining that its reencoding? There is some amount of processing done. I have Ulead DVD workshop and simply checking the "do not convert" box will avoid that problem altogether. I think there's 5 steps when you click the fnal button, been a while since i did it. One of them is where the encoding is done. It will fly through this if no encoding is done, if it does reencode it will be longest step.

  8. No.. could not get it to work, in the end I authored with TMPG then inported that into DVD movie factory.
No problem there. If the files are not correct it starts re encoding them first, if they are ok it will
do the menus first. Hope that helps anyone else.

    Thanks for your replys

If your source has too high a bitrate (over 9800 Kbps for the video), Ulead may re-encode it. Be careful with TMPGenc because it ignores maximum bit rate values. I would NEVER set a maximum in TMPGenc at 9300. I'd probably set it at 8800. Anyway, with an average bitrate of 8000, you're not really going to notice any difference between whether you encoded at a constant bitrate of 8000 or used variable bit rate with an average of 8000 and a maximum of 9300. Do a test and I am sure you won't be able to tell any difference. TMPGenc does overshoot maximum bit rate values by quite a bit sometimes, so although this works for you now, you still may in the future have encoded videos that have bitrate spikes so high that Ulead will re-encode them.

  10. Hi jman98, did not use TMPG enc used CCE encoder but authored with TMPG author 1.6. just used
high bitrate because it was going on to a dual layer disc. I also tried patching file to 8000 bitrate
with dvd patcher to try fooling Ulead but still no go.
