I use wmp 6.4 to play my Xvids. They usually stay in sync unless I seek then they get out of sync. Sometimes pausing wmp and starting again will resync it. But, all of a sudden now TMPG is converting to mpg out of sync. I don't know why. Can someone tell me what to check or ??? I'm at a complete loss and can't do jack like this. I watch the Xvid's on wmp and they are fine, but convert and are wacked. If they're good in avi format and bad in mpg format it's got to be TMPG I figure.

Strip wav with no compression and convert, if necessary to 44,100hz with VD. Maybe I should leave at 48000hz but just following site instructions...?
Set Audio in tmpg to 44100, 128bit, joint stereo. non-standard vcd. Set VB buffer to 0(automatic) according to site help again. Use unlock template to adjust to fit on one 80 min. Full screen, keep aspect ratio. That's about all... nothing special. -
Well scratch the idea about leaving at 48. Still wacked. What the heck... geeez.

In Vdub under 'File Information' in 'Compression' are you getting unknown? If you are, then you have an .ac3 file. This takes a few extra steps when converting. If you do have an .ac3 audio file then use this guide here to convert to .wav for encoding in Tmpge. or .mp2 for multiplexing:

No, I have Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3. I get the VBR warning box when I first open the file.

Try this out. Get Virtual Dub mp3-freeze. Under 'Audio' select AVI audio. Then select 'Full Processing Mode'. Then select 'Save Wav'. Then use this Wav file in the audio input in the Tmpge Wizard.

mgp,
I'm having the same problem! Post back here and let us know if the above worked for you, ok? If it worked for you, maybe it'll work for me.......
Update.....
I just tried the above, and it didn't work for me.
When I tried to save the wav in VirtualDub Mp3Freeze, it wouldn't let me and it just gave me the error, "ACM reported error on audio decompress (b)".

I get the same thing that guy above me gets... ACM reported error on audio decompress (b)

I've had the same problems also. Try either AVIMux or AVI2Wav to seperate your audio from video. Then see what happens.

Ok I believe you're on to something by leaving VirtualDub out of the equation. I just did a few minutes using ONLY TMPG, no VirtualDub wavs. Everything is good now... I dunno what VirtualDub's problem is...
-
I've had it happen to me a couple of times also. But it's always nice to have a backup plan.

I didn't notice any loss of quality by not stripping the audio first. What exactly is supposed to be the advantage of VD? I've just always "assumed" because the site said so that it was superior to letting TMPG do it all.
-
As to audio quality, I'm not sure what the difference is. Maybe if you have a Dolby Digital 5.1 surroundsound it might make a difference, but I just play my svcds through my TV. I do use Vdub frameserve every time I convert avi files. I've noticed that this removes almost all the jerkiness in my burned movies.

Hey, that worked for me too!
Yes!
I just left VDub out, and did everything with TMPG, and now it's working fine!

What kinds of files is VD messing up with you? xvid? any divx?
My VD has trouble with Xvids, not all of them but the majority so far.
