I recently received a file, but the video and audio are out of sync. The person who sent it to me said he used Avi-Mux GUI to correct the problem by adding 500 ms of delay to the audio. Unfortunately I can't get the program to work. When I downloaded the newest version it warned me that it only works with Windows 2000 or later. I tried anyway because I'm using a Windows 2000 emulator, but I couldn't get it working. When I installed an older version it fired up, but said it didn't recognize the Xvid format. Then I tried downloading Koyote soft video converter, but that didn't work either. I either need another program that can convert xvid to avi and that runs on Windows98 (using Kernelex) or I need another program that can do it.

On a side note, I used to have a slightly different problem with some video clips. At first the audio was fine but the longer you played it the more out of sync it got. I ended up deleting the clips, but in my effort to resolve the current problem I found out you can change the page frame rate or something like that to fix it. Now I'm interested in maybe revisiting those clips to see if I could get them working.

    Any advice?

Considering that I first detected the lack of audio sync when I put the file on a USB drive and placed it into my DVD player, it's unlikely that the problem is my computer.

El Heggunte's post is NOT helpful. Sorry about that.

Use GSpot to open your file and report if your audio is VBR MP3. Sometimes sync problems occur with VBR MP3.
