Ok heres my situation this is my first attemt at burning VCD's I started by taking a .AVI movie of mission impossible 2 that I downloaded I converted it to MPEG-1 video cd (ntsc) 29.97fps file using TMPGEnc this took 4 hours by the way but I guess thats normal the result was a 1.15GB Mpeg file that I then split with TMPGEnc into two 575MB mpeg files next I burned the first one as a Video CD using Nero burning rom 5 so far so good I then went into my windows explorer and looked at the contents of the disk the resulting files where 5 file folders named (CDI), (EXT), (MPEGAV), (SEGEMNT), and (VCD)in each where multiple files that seemed correct (mpegav) has a .dat file (vcd) has entries.vcd info.vcd lot.vcd and psd.vcd files (segment) was empty and so cdi and ext had a few files in each anyway I then tried to play it using both windvd and powerdvd neither would play the VCD I then tried to put it into my sony vcp-s5600 dvd player and it registered as no disc I'm asuming this could be because my dvd player can not read cd-r's anyway all the while I followed all directions on this website step by step any help on making this work will be much appreciated I've spent 4 days from waking to going to sleep trying now I just want to be able to watch movies I download on my living room TV thanks

I think the problem is that you split the file using TMPEGenc. I did that once and the files become corrupted. Instead of encoding the whole movie at once go to the settings button at the bottom of the screen. Click on it and go under the advanced tab button and check "Source Range" and then double click on "Source range" and choose which parts to encode. after encoding use that section of the movie and burn that onto the disk that should be able to work, if that doesn't work on your DVD player, maybe then it isn't capable of reading CD-R's.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you still have the MPEG file, demux it with TMPGenc (under MPEG tools), then use bbMPEG to remux/cut it. TMPGenc has trouble cutting some files.

I think its just my dvd player I took the same VCD to a friends house with a different DVD plaer and it worked fine that really pisses me off I hope maybe I can find a CD-RW that will work on my DVD player if anyone has had any success with the SOny dvp-s5600 please tell me what you used I tried a great quality 4x cd-rw and nothing but it worked on my friends fisher dvd player perfectly

It IS your DVD player. What you need to do is try various brands of media to fine ones that work with your DVD player. The issue is reflectivity. If the media is too shiny the laser beam bounces off the disk and either it skips badly or won't read at all. A lot of people have had success with brands like Verbatium Data Life Plus. It is one of several brands that has a duller greenish blue coating that seems to be tolerated well by most DVD players. BTW, many DVD players play SVCD too even if they don't say they can.

I have a JVC player not a Sony player, but maybe my experiences can help. At first, my JVC wouldn't play movies either. It would recognize the CD as a VCD, but played a blank screen and no audio when I hit the play button.
I found that if I hit the play button while it's reading the disk, the movie starts up everytime.
Hope this helps. -
I GOT IT! I GOT IT! I GOT IT! It finally works I used a sony 74min silver layer 4x cd-rw and the damn thing works perfect this is the happiest day of my life just kidding but it is preaty exciting

Right, some players have trouble with certain CDRs
Forgot about that. If you've got a DVD-ROM you might want to try encoding a DVD-x(S)VCD so you can see the potenial quaility of the format. A DivX -> x(S)VCD normally won't look that good (given the poor quaility of the source).
