  1. Using TMPGEnc:

I'm converting a 120 minute movie to CVD (352x480) 2 pass VBR of 2520max/2150average/1200min, high quality noise reduction and sharpen edges. My only problem is it estimates about 55 hours for the conversion.

Am I just expecting too much in too little time? or is this realistic? Should I just abandon the noise reduction and edge sharpening? (average quality DivX 800 meg for 2 hours)

Should I just CBR it at 2520 and burn to 4 cd's? or how about a lower CBR to where it would fit on 3?

Any help would be appreciated. My system stats are as follows.
    Athlon XP 1700+, 512 meg Pc133.

  2. Try taking out the filters(noise, sharpen) and see how that works.

if you need filters use avisynth.....

2 cd's at 800 meg each should take a few hours each

I have a PIII and have no problems with time.

I use the edge sharpening and find it doesn't affect the the time, noise reduction though is another story. Takes way too long, I rarely use it.

The noise reduction of TMPGenc is amazing, but is way slow...
An alternative is to clean your source in Vdub during frameserving. With Vdub mod this is really easy now (no more vfapi convert...)
I am searching for the best filter for this, the opinions varies a lot!

    avisynth is OK also.

I prefer VDub, 'cause I can preview what I'm doing.

  8. i just like to say a little experience i had.

I had a movie that's 2 hour 10 minutes long and i used CBR and it takes 4 CDs

and now i got the same movie and converted again using CCE with 4 pass VBR the result i got was excellent. and it runs about 65minutes on a Single CD. i was really surprised by the end result, hardly any blockiness. you should really not make any movie more than 3CDs.
