I am running Win7 Ultimate x64 and it is a relatively fresh install, about a month old. I'm not sure if this problem existed from the beginning or not but it is really driving me crazy now (I was ready to throw my mouse through the screen last night). Certain mpg files that I have encoded through TMPGEnc XPress 4 are taking a long time to open up, usually about 1 minute to 1 and a half minutes. I would have encoded them when I was running Vista x64 and I never had a problem on their before. I'm using media player classic to open the files but it behaves in the same way if I open the files in Windows Media Player. When I open them in Windows Media Player though I have the added bonus of the audio not playing when they finally load. I haven't tried VLC only cause I don't have it installed on this machine and I shouldn't have to install it just to get it to open up certain file types.
I always install the K-Lite mega codec pack and have never had an issue with it before. I had version 5.4.4 installed but I was thinking this may be the problem so I downgraded to 5.1.something. This did not fix the issue. I also installed the k-lite 64-bit codec pack v2.9.4, this did not solve the issue.
Below are some screen shots from GSpot on a couple of the files I'm having problems with.
The above files are have a 4:3 aspect ratio and for some reason when they open it won't even play the video but the audio will play (with MPC). Other files have a 16:9 aspect and they play normally when they finally open, everything else is the same apart from aspect ratio.
Other downloaded video files with different codecs and containers work without a problem.
Any ideas??? I'm lost.

In MPC (or MPCHC) select View -> Options -> Internal Filters. Try enabling disabling the internal MPEG PS/TS/PVA source filter and MPEG2 and AC3 audio decoders. Exit and restart. You installed a codec pack. Oops. Big mistake.

Okay, I folded and installed VLC. Straight away problem solved. Admitting defeat. I still would like to figure out why the other codecs are conflicting as I can't remember what it was but something steered me back to MPC from VLC last time. I'll take Jagabo's advice with the filters and try to figure it out that way. I'll leave that for another day though, it's Friday night and drinking time. Thanks everyone for your help.

Ok. Problem doesn't seem to be solved after all. The videos start straight away with vlc but the playback is jumpy. The video's keep on skipping during playback. I've installed VLC in XP mode and that seems to work without a problem. I don't think I want to load up XP mode every time I want to listen to some video clips. Any ideas on what could be causing that in VLC?
