  1. I just upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. Now when I try to convert an AVI file to MPEG 1 using TMPGEnc , like I have been doing for the past two years with ME, all I get is a black screen. It creates the output file with good audio, file size looks right, but it is just a black screen. Also as it decodes the screen is black.
Anybody know what this might be from?
I have reinstalled my Divx drivers, etc....no effect.
I also downloaded and installed DirectX 9.0...no effect.

That's why I rarely do OS upgrades, some of the registry entries, dlls, program settings, etc., from the older operating system may carry over and cause problems. If you don't get it going any other way, I would suggest a new/clean install of Windows XP, as in reformatting the boot partition and starting from scratch.

  4. Up until late last year I ran Win98 since it first came out on the market. I burned quite a few VCDs with that system until I updated to XP. I didn't bother upgrading, I just did a clean install and dumped all my VCD programs on the box afterward. I have yet to experience a show-stopper with VCD creation. I've had glitches, but never a problem. I think if you do a clean install of XP, add all the service packs much like I did you probably would be fine. It's just that I heard horror stories of upgrades going squirley because of incompatibilites with dlls and registry entries. Anyway, good luck!
