  1. somebody please help me get started.
I would like to capture video from my sony hi8 camcorder and convert into vcd or svcd so i can view it on my compatible dvd player.
I researched it quite a bit already but want to make sure i'm doing it right.
i converted the captured avi file into mpeg2 then convert the mpeg2 file to vcd but in the end the quality was horrible and got worse as i continued to convert. is there a software that will capture and convert into vcd and svcd without loosing the video and audio quality so i can view it on my dvd player? who out there knows.
    help me out guys.

Why convert to mpeg2 first? Convert directly to vcd mpeg1. And to get quality tryout XVCD,SVCD.

  3. What I do for best quality for Family video's from a Sony Hi8mm camcorder.
Use Vituraldub and capture as an AVI at 352x240 resolution audio at 22050 16 bit stereo, 44100 not required here for family videos. Use BTYUV or maybe Indegos 5.11, your AVI will look great, then use TMPGE to encode to MPEG1, I use an XVCD setting at 2520 bitrate, use Nero 5.0 or higher to burn onto CD-R(try CD-RW 1st until you feel secure with proceedures) to get a VCD compliant CD.
should work in your computer DVD player and any DVD players made in ASIA(aka china, korea, etc...). Some DVD Players by pioneer, toshiba and Sony play them also but watch out some can get very picky.

  4. thanks for your response guys. appreciate it...
my dvd player can play svcd and thats the kind of cd'rs that i want to make. i want the absolute best quality i can get so i thought the way to do that is to convert the captures avi file to mpeg2 then convert the mpeg2 to scvd. itn't that the way to go. isn't mpeg2 better than mpeg1. also i can't find any information on Indegos 5.11 or Vituraldub. i have nero 5.5 and adeptec easy cd creator. i also have a very fast computer and i'm looking at pinnalce studio version 7 for my editing needs what do you think? is it good stuff? I also have the trial version of tmpg but it is a little confusing to set. I do have a capture card and i used the demo version of mgi videowave to capture the video from my camcorder but it was not the best. could that be my video card, it is a creative 32bit anihalator 2 card and it has always been great for me. i have a 1090mhz athlon with 256ddr memory and a 30Gig hard drive and a top of the line creative sound blaster audio card. i'm new at this so break it down for me fellas!!
