I've tried copying avi files to my DVD+R media using both Nero 8 and Roxio via the create Data DVD feature of both softwares. However, when I try playing it, the DVD player is coming up blank. No problem playing it on the computer though. I know it is not the DVD player as it has succesfully played other avi files recorded by my buddies using the same media. What am I doing wrong?

Also, there is a lot of forum discussion about converting avi files to DVD format and the tools to use. Is there a difference in video/audio quality doing it this way as opposed to watching it in avi format? Seems like an awful waste of DVD media if the quality is the same?

    Thanks.

Try Imgburn (I don't have any time for either Nero or Roxio).

It could very well be the player. If, for example, the AVIs are high resolution, that by itself could explain it. There could be other reasons as well. Maybe you could post a GSpot pic of one of the problem AVIs?

If you have a decent DVD/MPEG-4 player, if anything the quality will degrade after being converted to DVD, just because encoding to MPEG-2 is a lossy process.

Likely a resolution issue as noted above. A quick screen capture with Gspot and the make/model of your player would be helpful.

Thanks guys, imgburn works like a charm. Also discovered my optical drive is no longer stable and causing most of the problem....have since changed that too. Thanks again.
