i am a total n00b at anything multi-media. however i have been working on turning alot of photos into slideshows using manslide for linux. i don't use or even have a MS Windoze box so everything i need to do has to be within a linux realm. manslide does a great job turning my pix into slideshows embedded with audio. the end result is an mpeg file. i don't know how to determine if this mpeg file is mpeg1 or mpeg2 format.

i ultimately want to burn these slideshows onto dvd discs that can be viewed on a home theatre dvd system (i.e not just a computer).

so i have copied some of my slideshows to a usb pen drive & plugged that into my home theatre dvd player but the slideshows never present an option to be played. but if i just copy a folder of pix (jpgs) onto the usb pen drive i am able to view those on my home theatre dvd player a-ok.

i guess i would first like to know how to tell if the files manslide generates are mpeg1 or mpeg2 format. then once i know how to tell what formats i have created what options do i have to view either format on a dvd using a home theatre type dvd player?

do you mean what is the model of the dvd player in my home theatre system that i want to play the slideshows on? if so i have a jama home theatre system, but i want to get these slideshows on dvd's & send them to family & friends so they can view them on their home theatre dvd players at home. so i am hoping i will be able to eventually burn dvd's that can be played on any dvd unit.
