  1. Using CCE do I select Joint Stereo or Stereo ? Bitrate 256 and 48khz ? Would 128 48khz work or 128 44khz ?

I understand SVCD is not a good medium for future archiving. I'm thinking about CVD's for in the future when I get a DVD burner.

I can never remember which is better between the two - I normally use joint stereo - but then again my videos are not normally noted for their distinct audio channels

if your making CVD's try 48khz - if your audio source is that - otherwise.....
and for bitrate try around 192kbps- if you know the audio is REALLY not important then - yes drop down to 128kbps or so

I switched from SVCD to CVD a couple of months back - Took me a while to work out the kinks - I have a Dazzle DVC II - I got EXCELLENT quality CVD's at a fraction of the encoding time and difficulty of SVCD and much better quality as well. I'm doing 3 pass VBR from CCE and the output looks fantastic - very closely matches the original footage

And they are all DVD compatible for when I get a DVD burner

  3. Can I ask what version of CCE are you using and how are you frameserving the avi to CCE ?

Also any good urls on making CVD with CCE ?

    Thanks

    Ahh I'm using CCE 2.5
I recently got 2.64 - but prefer the layout and options of 2.5
I'm frameserving from avisynth using a frontend of AVSGen - cause I'm lazy

As for Url's - there's a great guide in the guide section that details most things about CVD - otherwise get yourself a small sample video and practice yourself

For audio, for 192Kb/s or more better use stereo. For less bitrate, if you want simply stereo audio, use joint stereo. If you want to keep the souround info, use stereo for 160kb/s and dual channel for 128Kb/s
If you have a Dolby prologic 2 decoder, you can use whatever you want. Stereo in theory is still better for >160Kb/s

For CVDs, everything is exactly the same as SVCD. You change only the resolution to 352 X 576/480
