I've used a process of taking a 1.2 GB mpg movie and splitting it in 2 for two SVCD disks that was really very simple. There were 6-1GB mpg files and once the orginal IFO files were created in IFOedit, I separated the mpg files into 2 folders and added the IFO and BUP files to both folders. Then I used Nero to burn two SVCD disk. Both worked great,...no problems. This was for a VHS quality move I took off a DirectTV.
The question is,... I've ripped a DVD via Decryptor and the files are too large to fit on one DVD+R, even after stripping out everything. I don't want to go through the process of stripping, re-encoding, authoring, and then burning one disk,... too much work. The question is, can I divide up the vob files from my orginal rip, put them in two folders, copy over the duplicate IFO and BUP files and then just burn two DVD+R. I figure that DVD+R are cheap enough now and I don't have the time or the tools to re-encode the entire DVD, this simple way would really be nice,... if it works. Anyone have an answer to this simple question.
Thanks in advance.

I know IFOedit will just split them,... I've done it before. But it takes a lot of time,...hours to do it, and I've got sooooo much work to do I don't want to take the time if it is going to end up on two DVD+R disk anyway. It takes just seconds to move the VOB's to a diffenent folder.
But, will it work, has anyone tried it. I guess the next best thing to do is to try it to a DVD+RW and see if it works."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward. -
HMMMMM..hours to just split a movie?????? it only takes me about 15-20 min on a intel 1.5 ......how fast is ur machine????
i can split and burn a backup in 2.5 hours or so...that INCLUDES 2 hours just in burning discs

Yes my machine is rather slow, 750 MHZ AMD. Plus I'm limited on disk
space because I have so may movies ready to be split and burn.
Anyway, I tried to "Divide" the VOB's and that won't work. Nero reads the file and stops with an error, "VOB VTS_04_3.vob" is missing". It did give me the choice of continuing but warned of possibility of making a bad disk. I will try it anyway with a DVD+RW and see what happens.
If you estimate is right, it should take me about 1+hour to rip a 7.5GB movie, then about 1 hour each to burn. I'll give both a try.

Bstansbury - I don't believe you can just move the VOB's to a different directory. You will need to use IFOEdit or DVDXcopy. You can keep the original menus too.
