  1. when i rip a dvd using osextractor it turns the movie into one continuos movie. can i split it into chapters using dvd studio pro or do i need to rip differently. also when ripping the dvd it gets rid of all the menu choices and extras that make dvd's appealing. can i do this?

it would be best to make the chapters in dvd studio pro.. if you put all the multiple chapters in you would have a .5 second pause (even if you have no pause selected) between each track.... so you definitely want to make the chapters in dvd studio pro--- just read the documentation, it'll explain it better than i could.... when it comes to the extras, if u want the menus there is no way to do it (unless the whole dvd is 4.3 gigs or under) w/o ifoedit ... which is SUPPOSEDLY getting ported to the mac.. but there hasnt been any news regarding its progess in a while.

If your original DVD is 4.3 gig or less, use DVDBackup to do DVD -> DVD-R backup. If your original DVD is larger than that, you'll have to rip out the movie and use that as the only material on the backup, or recreate the menuing (difficult at best), or settle to make the purchase of the original DVD and forego a backup.

Ripping with 0Sex makes program streams or elementary streams. Program streams can be demultiplexed with bbDEMUX to create elemetary streams. DVD Studio Pro only accepts elementary streams for authoring. If your MPEG-2 video is propely timecoded, DVD Studio Pro will allow you to set chapter points to your liking.

Just a note of my opinion: its the movie that should make a DVD appealing. If your disc is full of menus, wouldn't that get boring after the first one or two times you've seen them?
