Hello,
I have recently returned to Europe from Australia with my VCD collection.
However my VCDs won't play on my DVD player.
I can play other VCDs but not the Aussie ones!
I have tried copying the VCDs to my PCs hard drive and the DAT files will play fine.
Can I remake the VCD on my PC from the DAT file?

You may want to find out this has anything to do with frame rate/Format ?
Play one of this Aussie VCD with MS media player and click on statistics properties and find out they are PAL, NTSC, or NTSC flim rate.
Maybe a more flexible player can help. Don't you need to spend your Xmas shopping budget ? -
Europe and Australia both use PAL so it shouldn't be a format issue, and even if this was the case it should still play, only incorrectly.
Could it be that the Australian discs are burned onto a brand of media that your DVD player has difficulty in reading. Has it had any trouble reading any discs in the past.
To answer your final question. Yes, you can remake the VCD's from the dat. However I would try a direct disc to disc copy first just to check to see if it is a media issue, try the copy and see if it plays.
If you do need to reauthor your VCD extract the mpeg from the dat using vcdgear. Then use the mpeg to make a new VCD using either nero or VCDeasy
