What is the DAT file?

I downloaded an online movie and saw it is DAT file in my computer. What is the DAT file and how to convert it into the DVD format file. I want to create DVD. Thanks.

DAT would seem likely to be a data file. Try opening in with a player like windows media, or dvx player and see if it plays, else try renaming the file to something like movie.avi and see if it plays then.

Could be MPEG1 from a VCD, but who knows.
Try GSpot and see if it can tell you what it is.
