    Downloaded a video File, that is in a .DAT Format
    Do I need to convert it to .avi or some other format to play the Video file.........Thanks.

    VCD uses .dat files, amongst others, as part of the structure. You can extract the video to an mpg file with VCDEasy, if that is what it is. It is unusual to download just a dat file though.

    VLC should be able to play it as-is, to confirm that you actually have what you think you have

    VCDgear also does a good job of converting to mpg.
