  1. I've been given an scvd disk made by a windows/pc user. It doesn't play properly on my Pioneer Elite DV47A DVD player (which should easily play it). I can tell on my Mac (G3/300) that it plays fine -- tho' my rig is a little slow to really enjoy it.

The problem when played on the DVD player is that, while the sound sounds great, the picture 'rolls' constantly, like a tv with broken vertical hold control.

What I'm wondering is this: is there a way to extract the info from this pc-made disk, reburn it properly using Toast Titanium, so that it will play properly on my DVD player?

Or, has anyone seen this sort of problem before? And if so, can you offer me a solution?

Thanks for reading... any and all help will be most appreciated!

  2. Hi!

insert SVCD into CD-ROM and search the biggest file in it. Then copy it to your hard disk. Then go to Nero or other recording software and choose Super Video CD. Use that file copied to hard disk and burn in (I recommend using a CD-RW of 700Mb to try first) 8)

  3. On Mac:

    1) rip mpeg(s) off of disk with VCD Copy X http://www.cs.ucla.edu/~nathanst/software/vcdcopyx/

    2) Change extension from DAT to MPG

    3) Demux into M2V and MP2 streams with bbDMUX or MoreMissingTools

    4) Re-Mux with MissingMpegTools

    5) Re-Author with MMT or vcdToolsX

    6) Re-Burn with Toast or MissingMediaBurner

  4. Thanks for the replies - I appreciate it!

I've now learned that (part of?) the problem might be that the disk was recorded in PAL... Even tho' my dvd player is set to "auto", the video still rolls.

Question: If a disk has been recorded in PAL, and I want to create a NTSC friendly disk, will going through the ripping/reauthoring procedure do anything to help THAT particular problem? Is there a way to convert PAL <-->NTSC video?

    Thanks again,

  5. Demuxing and remuxing is not going to help.
Normally you would need to transcode the mpeg.
Go to my site at homepage.mac.com/rnc
Read over the "How to edit mpeg header & .ifo file"
With the mpeg demuxed, work with the video stream (m2v).
Try editing the size to ntsc 480x480 and set the frame rate to 29.97.
    Remux and re-author.
Let us know what the results are, it may be a major break thru.
