  1. hey i just encoded a movie which is in anamorphic widescreen, but when i burn it as a xsvcd my dvd player freezes up and displayes a blocky picture. But if I just burn the mpeg2 file without formatting it as a svcd it plays fine, the only problem with this is i can't fast forward then. Can you not burn anamorphic on xsvcd? 16:9? Thanks

Your movie is probably freezing because it's an xSVCD. If you exceed the limit of your player, this is a common side effect. Try reducing the bitrate. Are you using the standard SVCD resolution?

  3. no it's not that, I have the Apex Ad-1100W and it can read up to 8000Kbit/s for a xsvcd and i've tested this and my movie is on 1400 CBR.

Use Pulldown to change the DAR to 4:3 and see if your problem goes away.

You did not mention what program you used to burn the SVCD. I know for example early versions of Nero(4.0) would burn SVCD but scan would not work in a DVD player.

  6. I did set the DAR to 4:3 and the problem's the same. I'm using Nero 5.5. If I use Nero and just create a normal data cd and burn the movie that way the dvd player reads it fine. so it might be something with nero's svcd settings.

WienieMan, what version of 5.5 (i.e. 5.5.9.0 )? Also, what settings? Did you use the built in SVCD template?

When you left the 'Compliant' option checked, did you recieve an error, and if so, what was the specific error?

  10. It just says that the frame size is wrong (720x320) which is anamorphic widescreen.

xSVCD. Your not using any standard. Can't help you much, if at all.

I did double check on the DAR flags. SVCD does not officially support 16:9, although your individual play might.

My suggestion. Make a standard SVCD. They look fine on my 58" HDTV, I'm sure they'll look fine on yours.

To save yourself the trouble, you can switch the DAR using PULLDOWN.EXE, without re-encoding. Much faster.
