  1. Hello, i am using nero 5.5.9.14 and nero's mpeg and svcd codec, when i try
to convert mpeg to svcd encoding takes to much time i.e more then 10 hours, it is also the case when i tried making a vcd from mpg file. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem or its the usual time. Nero says the file need to be encoded before burning in both the cases. I have 256mb ram and 266mhz pentium machine.

  2. I also have a 266Mhz but only 64 ram though. I originally used nero to encode and it took between 8-12 hours to reencode the video with Nero. Try using another program like vcdeasy.

  3. I bet the quality is terrible.
You should try using CCE or TMPGEnc
CCE is faster than TMPGEnc but not by much and they both make great quality SVCD's. Nothing beats them when it comes to encoding SVCD and having the best possible quality.

CCE will not run on anything less than a Pentium III.

Btw, your encode times sound pretty typical for such a low spec machine. Processor speed is (almost) everything whne using software mpeg encoders.
