Ok so i go to open up an avi file i have of Odyssey5 series. File name is odyssey5.112.Begotten.tvrip.divx-sfm.avi. I want to make it mpeg so i can burn to vcd and watch on dvd player. However when I try to select it I get the following message....
"File c:/blahblbhalbah cannot open, or unsupported"
I've never had a problem converting avi's so why does it not work with this one?

yes i have nimo codec installed. Other wise i wouldn't be able to watch it in the first place on the computer. Codec is not the problem. The files are on c:/ folder so are no spaces in directory and i renamed it so is only 1 period which is before .avi so thats not the problem either

When i click "ok" it opens it in vd.
I went to File----> File Information...
Here's what i get.

Decompressor: MS MPEG-4 3688 V3
Audio Stream:

Compression: Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Laer-3 Codec
So that means i have the correct codecs and they are installed. I changed the priority in the settings as the other person said but still doesn't work. Any other ideas.

OK, well Vdub is giving you a warning, mess with this AVI and you need to save the output uncompressed for both video and audio, so don't mess with it in Vdub
At that stage people panic and save out the audio uncompressed at 44.1Khz, but there is no reason why TMPGEnc cannot handle this, as long as there are no junk frames in the AVI, it will be just fine...
TMPGEnc
Open what ?
Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
Right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
The AVI looks just like many others that are about, nothing special with it at all, many have VBR MP3, many using MPEG 4 V3, wonder if your system has an old locked M$. When you installed Nimo did you remove the other codec's first.
Also did you install DivX 5 over the top of Nimo ? (Bad move) If you did, download the KJ Codec pack from Kazaa
-
The Nimo Codec is the last codec i've installed.
So far only my files that are ac3 amc files like
"C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Filez\Programs\STARGATE - SG1 - [3x06] - POINT OF VIEW - [350]-[AC3]-[AMC].avi"
will open so i can convert them. Will that help solve the problem any? Also changing the priority of DirectShow didn't do anything either. Still doesn't open everything else.
the file "O5.107-AMC.avi" doesn't open in tmpgenc though. Just an example of what files aren't opening in it. So far the ONLY file that will open and convert is the ac3 amc 350 files.(º·.¸(¨*· .¸ . ¸.·**· .¸ . ¸.·*¨)¸.·

Ok load Vdub and select Video > full processing mode, then Video compression. This will list what codec's you have available.
You should have at leased
DivX 3.11 Alpha (Low/fast motion)
MPEG 4 V 2,3,4
DivX 5.02
Then do the same for audio
DivX audio
MPEG Layer 3 (Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec)
Voxwear ?

Have another problem now though. When i select a file to convert it does that all fine but it says its way bigger then it is. Its a 43MB tv episode but says is 100+min file thats 1GB+. This is for vcd btw.
Also some of the files when selected don't select the audio file at th esame time. For example
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Filez\Programs\Stargate - SG1\Season 4\STARGATE - SG1 - [4x18] - THE LIGHT - [350]-[AC3]-[AMC].avi
That file will only select the video file.
Yet this file will select both
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Filez\Programs\Knight Rider 1x01 Chariots Of Gold.avi
But when it does and i click next twice in the bitrate settings it says its 130 min 17 sec and 1303.16MB with video bitrate at 1150kbits/s and audio at 224kbits/s
This file though shows up fine. It selects the audio and video file and the size is right.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Filez\Programs\Mad Max 3 - Beyond Thunderdome (DVDrip).avi
1025.02MB 102min 29sec
I uninstalled all the codecs.
Reinstalled 3.11 first. Then 4.x and then 5. And same thing.(º·.¸(¨*· .¸ . ¸.·**· .¸ . ¸.·*¨)¸.·

You are loosing me
One thing at a time..

So you have loaded it into TMPGEnc, and it says 100 + Min ?, its probable got some duff frames, use the source range in TMPGEnc and move to almost the end, you may see that when you move further you get the same thing, so can select the end to fix that.
If the audio is not shown, again you have a missing audio codec, but check the DirectShow priorities just incase.
Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

ok i did the source range and hit the move to end button and select end and it worked. Now says normal size. Thanks alot. Not everything will be fine when get the audio part to work. I agree there must be a file missing or something. I am going to look at the codecs that are installed again in VD and see if u guys see anything missing.

If TMP says you file is way larger than it really is, I recomemd that you use VD to extract the audio track in uncompressed form, then load the video stream of the .avi and the .wav track you created into TMP. Then do your conversion. I had this problem once also. If you don't install the 3.11 drivers before the 5.02 drivers TMP has trouble in XP determining the correct driver to use.

your going to have to give me a url because when u put KJ Codec Pack into a search engine NOTHING comes up that has ANYTHING to do with codecs.
See for yourself

Oh i forgot to put what my audio compression says in VD. Tell me if something is missing since tmpeg doesn't open the audio for some files.

I did say to search Kazaa, you wont find the KJ codec pack on the internet. The sig2dat were the links !!!
There are lots missing from your list, I can see you have DivX 3.11 Alpha missing still, this also gives the DivX audio
DivXAudio (Divx 3.11 alpha)
Lernout & Hauspie
Voxwear
Nimo recommends you uninstall other codec's before you use it, but now your in a bit of a mess, so I suggest you install DivX 3.11 alpha on its own, don't use the Nimo codec pack, download it separately.
You keep missing this all the time. Are you still trying to install it with Nimo ?

no i did install 3.11. That was the first one i reinstalled when i took everything off. I think with all the errors when installed nimo that it uninstalled the 3.11 files maybe.

ok i just installed 3.11 and found a way to instlal nimo without getting all those errors. I installed it after 3.11. After i installed nimo 5 build 8 i installed divx4. Do i still need divx 5 or does nimo cover that? Here is screenshot of my vd compression window.
