Re-encoding an MPEG to be VCD-compatible

Hi,

I have an MPEG1 file that was strange to begin with. It would play at the wrong size on the Quicktime player. Feeling like I knew everything, I fixed the playback size in Quicktime Player, saved as a self contained movie and ditched the original. Now I would like to burn this as a VCD. Toast won't see it, and if I try TMPGenc on VPC, it chokes on the file. I tried re-encoding with both Cleaner and M.Pack, but I have no audio (the M.Pack file is also unacceptably darker...).

So how do I re-encode this file with audio.

You could try VCDgear and see if the mpeg to mpeg option works with the toast compatible box checked. One thing, what was wierd about the mpeg and what did you have to fix? Mpegs for VCD are a specific size and bit rate but for ones that you are just playing on your computer can vary from those specifications. I have seen bit rate, frame rates, and sizes that aren't even close to the VCD spec.

Hi toddz!

The size was off. It was smushed vertically. I ended up fixing it with a Windoze tool in VPC, then using TMPGenc to re-encode it. It took about 24h to re-encode. I wish I could re-encode an MPEG on t eh MacOS...
