says nope on this page http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/compatibilitylist_dvdrom.html

i looked up the model number of what you have, which is a dvd-rom ... and that dvd-rom (some can) cant read dvd-rw

  5. that sight you linked said it was for DVD+RW and DVD+R. it doesnt say anything about DVD-RW and DVD-r.

  6. IF this helps at all the DVD-rom drive is a Toshiba MD#SD-C2502.this is what is in this compaq.

  7. Maybe this is too simple, but have you installed DVD player software ? It might be supplied seperately in the compaq box, or not be supplied at all.

does the drive recognise the DVD ? If not, then forget it.

  9. hmmm...maybe the drive isn't very good at reading the type of dvd-r/rw's you are using...try a dvd player where you can set the buffer...

is dma transfer enabled on the dvd player ?

what if you copy the files ti your hdd...does it play well then ?

If from hdd playback is still choppy...the problem lies in creation of the dvd...if it plays wel on a standalone it must be some compaq driver/codec problem.. does it play original dvd's smooth ?

the player is exchangable...try one of a friend to see if it's a drive problem. A new firmware (if availbale) may help.

  11. Did you close the DVD or leave it open? Many DVD readers, for
whatever reason, cant initilize an open DVD... Just a thought though
its a long shot but a thought...

    Good luck
