  1. Hi guys, I have read the guides on this site and they are excellent!!

I have just one query with DVD2AVI. The encoder methods available seem to be either Cinema Craft or TMPG. I have downloaded previously, Divx 5.02. Isn't this a better method of encoding? or how does it compare to the 2 in DVD2AVI?

Sorry if this is a dumb Q, but if you can advise me or put me right, that would be great.

p.s I am (intending, after research) to convert DVD's to VCD or SVCD for playback on my standalone DVD.

One other thing I can't get an answer to from the guides is whether the CVD format be played on a standalone player?

Thanks in advance for your help..

    Pete

if you want to play on set top, what you want divx for? cant play divx on set top.

For CVD it depends on the player, you'll have to try it out.

absolute easiest way to convert dvd to svcd is using DVD2SVCD. just a few click for the whole process and it even gives good result.

  3. Thanks,

I thought DIVX just compressed the file to AVI more so that I could get more on one disk?

So, are the compression / encoding options in DVD2AVI OK for writing VCD then?

But what is DIVx for then - just for maximal compression when watching AVI's on a PC?

If someone can explain this then that will answer all my Q's
