I have recently encountered a problem converting to DivX 6+. For the past year I have been using avi.net to convert to DivX; I have also used Ulead Video Studio 8.0 to convert my home movies to DivX without a problem. The past month or so these programs have errored out when creating DivX movies. I thought it was something I installed so I re-imaged my computer to a date that I knew was ok. Once the system reboots (after re-imaging) I can convert again, but once I shut down and reboot again everything goes wrong. The same issued occurs with AutoGK as well. I have tried uninstalling the DivX codec, reinstalling, updating and nothing works. At least I can encode to Xvid. Has anyone else seen this problem?

could be. try it again but keep the computer completely offline after the image is installed. reboot, see if it's still working. if it is then something is probably autoupdating. find what it is.

I'm certainly not the most experience Divx guy here, but since nobody else tried...

Most of us don't use avi.net. Strike one for you.

You may be the only person here who uses Ulead to encode to Divx. Why on earth do you use Ulead? Their encoders generally suck for MPEG-2 work. I can't imagine they are better for Divx. Strike two for you.

I've never heard of this problem. Strike three.

If you have the commercial Divx codec, you can use the free Dr. Divx (http://www.drdivx.com). Dr. Divx works well and if you are just using Ulead because it's "easy", I'm sure Dr. Divx would be easy enough for you too. All of the Xvid encoding tools I've seen are a lot more complicated than Dr. Divx.

If you haven't already done so, I recommend scanning your PC for viruses and spy ware. Strange problems often occur because of these.
