  1. I'm brand new to this and know nothing!
I downloaded 2 mpg files, 1 x 442mb and 1 x 446mb. I want to creat a CD to play them on my TV/DVD player. dDo I join them and compress them somehow or just burn 2 CD's???
Any help appreciated and sorry if this is dumb.

It would take time to join the files and encode them, and it will of course reduce the quality.

    I would go for the 2 cd's !

If you want to join/encode, you can use the great guides here at vcdhelp.com.

Well first make sure your DVD player can play VCDs.

Then youll have to convert the two mpeg files into VCD complatable mpg files. Look on this site, there are many guides that tell you how to do it.

Then after the conversion, you have to author it with a program (i.e. Nero, VCDeasy)

Youll end up with one or two cds depending on the quality you prefer.

What is the playing time of each mpeg, if the total time exceeds 80 minuets then they wont fit onto one CD.
Your total size is 888Mb and sounds like they wont fit on 1 CD

If they are not fully compliant VCD mpegs, your authoring program will tell you, and will want to convert them, assuming they are the correct type, they might be PAL or NTSC, you need to be aware that your equipment might not handle both formats, so would need to convert from PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL

TMPGENC will join mpeg movies with no problem at all, provided the source of both half's are the same, and there are no errors in them. Use mpeg tools > split merge.

Joining mpeg files does not require re-encoding, this is done by streaming, not conversion, and should take only a few minuets. The quality remains the same.

This is true for joining, if the mpeg files are not the correct type, then they will need re-encoding
