resizing when converting DivX -> SVCD

hello guys,

I've read the "converting to SVCD's" tutorial on this site but it hasn't answered my question about resizing the DivX-movie. So this is my situation:
I've got a DivX-movie with a resolution of 704x336 and I want to convert it to SVCD, so I've resized the movie to 480x367 (PAL, letterbox: 480x576). Both values have been calculated with "BitrateCalc by TZ".

- What type of compression should I use for the resized DivX-movie? The same as used for the unresized movie (that would be DivX)?
- If yes, how do I get clue of the bitrate used for the unresized DivX-movie?
- Is there another (easier) way of resizing and converting the movie to SVCD(-size)? Because in my case I have to 1.resize with VirtualDub 2.convert to SVCD with TMPGEnc which takes about 10 hours on my 800-Mhz-PC

use the resize filter in virtualdub as you suggest. Under video set compression to none, full processing mode, then frameserve to TmpGenc.

what do you mean with "frameserve to TmpGenc" ?
shall I do the same as described above except with no compression for the video-file?

another (little) question: shall I decompress the audio first (as described here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm#audio)? or is this just optional to avoid problems with the audio?

One of the guides/howtos describes frameservig from virtualdub to TmpGenc in detail. I don't have the time to describe the process in detail so I suggest you look at these resources for more help. As for the audio, you can include it in the freamserved data and let TmpGenc handle it. This is ok if it is the correct sample rate for SVCD (44.1khz). If it is not select no audio when framserving, then follow the guides for seperating the audio from the video with vdub, downsample (or upsample) as required and convert to mpeg audio format, then use TmpGenc to re-mux with your video. The guides on this site should give you all the help you need for this.
