    read on a couple of sites the latest version can encode to av1 mkv but ive downloaded it and there is no av1 on the list of video codec

    I think handbrake can only load av1 video .. not sure ..

    also ffmpeg as recommended above .. you can find in staxrip three options to make AV1 .. (aomenc/Rav1e/SCT-AV1)
