  1. I have a MTS file (HD 60i video) taken from my camcorder.
I put this MTS into Premiere timeline.
Then directly export the timeline using Premiere Preset "HD 1080p 29.97" in H264, named the file : file-A.
Here is the file-A media info :
    Code:

    In short :
file-A bitrate is around 32 Mbps, 29.97 fps progressive. File size is around 236 MB.
file-B bitrate is around 6 Mbps, 29.97 fps interlaced. File size is around 48 MB.
I can see the quality difference between file-A and file-B when watching it in 42 inch LED-TV connected to my computer via hdmi.

Anyway, because I want to reduce the file size, so I use Handbrake to do it.
    I put file-A into Handbrake, with a setting :
    Constant Quality (RF) : 30
    X-264 Preset : Medium
    Filters : OFF
    Name the file : HB-file-A.

In short, the encoded file from Handbrake :
HB-file-A bitrate is around 3 Mbps, 29.97 fps progressive. Stream size : 22 MB
HB-file-B bitrate is around 3.4 Mbps, 59.97 fps progressive. Stream size : 24.7 MB

    The problem in me :
I thought that the quality of HB-file-A will be better than HB-file-B, because the source (which is file-A) has a high bitrate.
But I cannot see the quality difference between these two files when I watch it in 42 inch LED-TV.
So then I thought "oh... maybe it's because the bitrate is different". (HB-file-A bitrate is lower than HB-file-B)

So I encoded again file-A with Handbrake, this time with Constant Quality 29, named the file : HB-file-A1.
HB-file-A1 bitrate is 3.5 Mbps, 29.97 fps progressive. Stream size : 25.7 MB

Now HB-file-A1 bitrate is almost the same (slightly higher) with HB-file-B.
But again, I cannot see the quality difference between these two files when I watch it in 42 inch LED-TV.

    A. The problem is within me. e.g : I have a "common" eyes not a "high definition" eyes .
The "high definition" eyes will be able to see the quality difference.

    or

    B. The Handbrake encoded quality file will be the same quality from a high bitrate (32 Mbps) or a lower bitrate (6.3 Mbps) source.

So... is it A ? or is it B ?

    Thank you in advance.

  2. Why don't you use Voukoder plugin to export directly from Premiere with x264 and skip additional step with Handbrake?

Also, if you ask me, CRF 30 and 29 is too low quality for 1080p. And why is first file progressive and second file interlaced? Makes no sense.

  3. Thank you for the respond, badyu.

Because I don't know Voukoder plugin, and just now heard it from you, badyu.

I realize that. My steps I describe in the post is just a test.
As in Handbrake, there is to use 20 to 23 Constant Quality for HD source.

And why is first file progressive and second file interlaced?
    Because :
    1. I want the final file is progressive
    2. I want to see if there is a big difference between :
    A. export to progressive from Premiere (HD 1080p 29.97) so in Handbrake encoding, the Filter can be off (that's why the first file is progressive)
    B. leave the interlaced MTS when export from Premiere (Match Source) then use Handbrake encoding with the Filter Decomb Bob (that's why the second file is interlaced).

Voukoder plugin to export directly from Premiere with x264
Will it work with my old Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 ? My Windows 7 is 64bit.
I've downloaded the Voukoder.prm file and put it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore as instructed on the Voukoder website.
But I cannot find an option to export media with Voukoder in Premiere. Maybe I don't know how to export media with Voukoder in Premiere or maybe my Premiere is outdated so it's not compatible with Voukoder.prm ?

    Thank you.
