"codec not supported in container" error, on exporting to mp4 from Vi

i'm trying VirtualDub FilterMod. Trying to export an mp4 file, but getting

raw video codec not currently supported in container

i tried these old steps, but i don't see a VirtualDub "Color Depth" option on Video menu.

Maybe you're trying to save UN-compressed video to an MP4 file?
In fact, the MP4 container does not support uncompressed video.
I don't use VDFMod, so I'm only guessing...

What kind of "mp4" ? What sorts of targets or how will it be played ?

In vdfm, for general use mp4 you would select video => compression => x264 8bit

Some uncompressed variants work in mp4.
Working: YV12, YV16, YV24, YUYV, V210
Not working: rgb24, rgb32

Depends on codec - i bet that mov container i.e. foundation for mp4 container had support for uncompressed RGB.
MP4 is highly limited container and personally trying to avoid mp4 as much as possible.
